This is a game director Shing Lee played with his dancer brother, Joseph Lee. “Wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought: So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.” A quote from East Coker, Four Quartets, T.S. Eliot who inspired the creation of this film.

I’m so honoured to attend Clermont Ferrand
International Short Film Festival. The festival is a real high-level
cinematographic event.
This year, I was honored to cooperate with Jumping
Frames International Dance Video Competition. I made my first dance video
documentary which has been also selected by NAE Program so that I’m so glad to
be here in France.
In France, the festival committee and the
audience show a lot of respect to directors.
In the gap between
the two short films, the theater lights will be turned on, and the audience
gives warm applause just after the last finished short film. At the same time,
the gap also allows them to have time to adjust their mood and quickly get
attention for next short films. The detail can improve their screening
experience.
I personally love experimental short films, so I
have watched screening of LABO competition. The theme and shooting technique of
each experimental short films are amazing. In the future, I would like to shoot
a family theme documentary. By watching experimental short films, I’ve learned
that I can integrate more urban landscape into my future project. And I need to
improve my photography skills. The techniques and themes of these experimental
documentary short films will inspire me in the future.
Through the Hong Kong screenings organized by NAE,
I met other Hong Kong directors, especially the animation field which I didn't
know much about before. I was pleasantly surprised to see the high-level of
animations in Hong Kong nowadays. I also appreciate the effort made by Hong
Kong Arts Centre in film selection, including documentaries, feature films,
animations, etc. So that the audience can enjoy various types of HK short
films. While in Hong Kong, each category is usually screened separately, it is
rare to see such a wide range of themes and genres in a single screening. This
allows me to appreciate the different creative ideas of Hong Kong directors,
and also see some common points. For example, in terms of animation creation,
animators try to show Hong Kong's characteristics and culture in their own way.
This is a great inspiration for me.
