22nd ifva Festival: NEW ACTION EXPRESS Short Film Highlights

Four award-winning local titles, being sponsored by CreateHK under NAE, participated in different international film festivals this year. They were brought back to the local platform for their first free screening at the 22nd ifva Festival. The audience had an enjoyable evening by getting a taste of suspense, tenderness, emptiness, fantasy and excitements from the four brilliant works.

Security Guard is standing in a white cube and starring at the absurd artwork. He is like a watch dog, Malinois, looking at every pass- by. A compliant stimulates his imagination, and puts him to write a routine incident report in detail. The suppressed imagination explodes, and the guard’s gaze finally breaks through the wall to reach a free horizon.

She believes that it is because she has put on some weight, so she is determined to be on diet. In the meantime, she insists her boyfriend to join her…

The sudden death of Uncle Fan was caused by a bowl of soybean pudding. He is desperate to know the truth about the affair of his wife. Eventually he is brought back to the pieces of memory that entangles among two boys and a girl, on fighting for their pride through a slingshot battle against the boss of students.

Pak-kiu works as a gaffer while waiting for his first breakthrough in front of the camera. One day he is offered a role as a cancer patient. Desperate to practise method acting, he joins a patient support group, which reunites him with an old classmate. The reunion, shrouded in a façade of altruistic motive, leaves him ill-prepared with an unprepared future.
