Programme review

Hosted by independent cultural worker Fung Mei-wah May, the “NAE Networking Event and Seminar on Festival Participation” was successfully held in November at agnès b. CINEMA, Hong Kong Arts Centre.  The event provided a valuable opportunity for the guest speakers and local short film and animation filmmakers to share their experience with the public, inspire others and look ahead to NAE 2012/2013 together. Edko Film’s Director of Marketing on Special Projects, Yeung Wai-lan Esther, explained the characteristics and scales of various film festivals and how filmmakers can take the best advantage of their film festival experiences and expand their networks by strategizing their activities while at these events.  Ms. Yeung also pointed out that directors should be aware of the importance of positioning their short films in film markets, by understanding five crucial elements including origin of work, language, theme, genre and length. Award-winning directors Tsang Tsui-shan and Wong Wai-kit Vicky talked about how their careers developed.  Using the international film festivals circuit as a platform, the two discovered many opportunities which allowed them to seek greater artistic growth, which eventually led to their success.  Ten excellent short films listed under NAE were also screened. The filmmakers shared their laughs and tears on their visits to the many different competitions and festivals.
