Remarks shared after Festival visit

Since it was a Chinese-culture-orientated festival, more than half of the attending audience were Chinese people residing or students studying in the UK. The Q&A session of Fresh Wave short films after screening had become an almost-political debate, on contemporary Chinese cinema versus Hong Kong film industry. Audience were curious about the changes in the trend of creative work in Hong Kong. When talking about how productions have shifted to mainland China, and how the China market and funding sources are influencing the creative process, we expressed concerns towards how censorship is harming creativity. We believe the freedom of expressing opinion through creating art is what makes Hong Kong a valuable treasure.
