Remarks shared after Festival visit

"As a teacher at middle school, I’ve been shooting this short film with about 10 students. They were very happy when they’ve learnt that this short film would be showed in France. Since students in Hong Kong always have a lot of homework and don’t have free time for extracurricular activities, it has taken us six months for the pre-production and it was not that easy to organise the shooting. In that case, the opportunity sponsored by NAE was the best gift and recognition for the whole team.

After the market screening organised by NAE, Asian-French audiences told me that the short film was like a fresh air and it recalled their “unbanana” campus life. Everyone could find their own character in this short film, while Western audience compared it with « High School Musical ». This short film belongs to a series of 10 episodes. I hope that one day in Hong Kong, I can produce long iconic series like « Growing Pains» which can accompany youths in one generation.

I really enjoyed the International Competition Programme which provided an abundance of high quality short films. The story-telling was quite different from production in Hong Kong which broadened my horizon and gave me a lot of inspirations.

Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival has been organised in a very professional way and it has attracted a wide range of audience. I’ve noticed that every afternoon, there are special youth programmes dedicated to kids. And the workshops organised by the festival have received many schools, from primary schools to university students. Different programmes have been adapted for different groups so that audience of all ages can enjoy the most of the festival. In France, the culture of cinema has been formed since very young age. It’s a good thing for cinema education. Many of them keep this passion throughout their whole life. While in Hong Kong, there’s a gap. This is a valuable trip for me and I determined to offer more opportunities to Hong Kong young talents and make effort to let more young students to be involved in film industry. "
